Standard Tap

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Where do you go on a drizzly sunday afternoon when in need of some drinks, food and seats for friendly conversation? why not here?! In between brunch and dinner they have a small break and menu change then the kitchen opens right back up. In the meantime they keep serving drinks :) Friendly service altho a little slow considering the place was not crowded at all. Must compliment the one waitress on her excellent penmanship when writing up the menu board with chalk. I'm sure we'll be back, no 4th star since it took a while to order our last round as well as getting the check.

Sweet Freedom Bakery

tv show: Cupcake Wars

I would never think to normally come here as I love all things Gluten and Animal based, but a friend with a Gluten allergy was coming for dinner so I figured I would get a few desserts.

Sugar On Top

tv show: Cupcake Wars

Nothin says lovin like somethin from the oven. Everything about the cupcakes & shop remind me of home. Warm and welcoming, unpretentious presentation of the cupcakes, funky mismatched shabbychic eating area. The atmosphere of this shop is a refreshing change from the elitist vibe of stuffy boutique shops.

Lucky Cupcake Co

tv show: Cupcake Wars

I really like this place. What a gem in the Doylestown Area. The owner/chef is so friendly and her staff is very nice. But the best part of the visit of course is the amazing cupcakes. Creative flavors and excellent quality. Just make sure the cupcake sits out for an hour. Don't eat them cold, no matter how tempted you are to chow them down. I have been here a dozen times. Ordered a birthday cake and have never been disappointed. Worth the a short trip from downtown D-town, Newtown or even Philly. Red Velvet, Devil Dog, Plain Jane so many great flavors and they even have a pretzel flavored cupcake...got to go back soon.

John's Roast Pork

tv show: Food Feuds

I did not gave the Roast Pork, but the cheese steak, WOW WOW WOW! Sharp Provolone, onion, and steak. They put it on a nice crusty roll and they actually tear out some of the middle bread to make room for more steak! Awesome!

Tony Luke's

tv show: Food Feuds

After realizing that Tony Luke's across the street is more of just an over-sized food stand and without bathrooms (I just really had to go #1), my mom and I decided to go across the street to Tony Luke's sister establishment, Tony Luke's Sports Bar.

Villa Di Roma Restaurant

tv show: Food Feuds

The true old Italian Gravy House. I'm not the True Old Italian as I had to embarass myself by admitting to someone that I did not know that Gravy was sauce. Ouch! I went down a few points on that one.

Ralph's Italian Restaurant

tv show: Food Feuds

I had been reading a great book on Frank Sinatra called "The Way You Wear Your Hat" and he said that Ralph's was one of his favorite restaurants in Philadelphia. I figured the Chairman of the Board can't be wrong and decided to give it a try.

Pats King Of Steaks

tv show: Food Feuds

Pat's King of Steaks (also known as Pat's Steaks) is a Philadelphia restaurant specializing in cheesesteaks, and located at the intersection of South 9th Street, Wharton Street and East Passyunk Avenue in South Philadelphia, directly across the street from rival Geno's Steaks. It was founded in 1930 by the Olivieri brothers, who are credited with the creation of the Philly Cheesesteak.

Geno's Steaks

tv show: Food Feuds

Geno's Steaks was started by Joe Vento back in 1966. He figured that if he was going to sell a steak, he had to be where they were already eating them....at the "X" shaped intersection of 9th & Passyunk in South Philadelphia. Joe learned the cheese steak business from his father who in the early 1940's opened "Jim's Steaks". In 1966, Joe started "Geno's" with $6.00 in his pocket, 2 boxes of steaks and some hot dogs.

Chickie's and Pete's

tv show: Food Wars

I have been going to Chickie's & Pete's Cafe for dinner for a number of years now. When it is Bluepoint Crab season and when you are in a mood for some hot shrimp, mussels or littleneck clams then this is the place to be.

Pats King Of Steaks

tv show: Food Wars

I prefer Pat to Genos or Lukes. Pat's bread is not as crusty as Luke's but the cheese is much better. It's not as chemically tasting as Lukes. The beef has flavor and it's over all a better flavor. They have a steak ordering window, and a window for all other orders so makes sure you are at the right window before ordering!

Campo's

tv show: Heat Seekers

A really good cheesesteak but somewhat on the smaller side, also could have used some more meat. Enjoyed the meal, but not so much washing it down with a $3 soda.

Sometimes I hesitate to review such a hidden neighborhood gem for fear of exposing it. I can't resist giving appropriate love to this cozy, cash-only, BYOB in the Italian market neighborhood of south Philly.
