Diners Drive-Ins and Dives
First time here it was Sunday about 12;30 very busy place greeted by waitress
told how to order. Basically get in line grab a menu and order at cashier take
table # Waitress will bring your beverage order to table.
I was in Springfield this past weekend and I was looking for a place to have
breakfast/lunch. Usually Yelp comes to my rescue, but I ended up finding
Charlie Parkers through Foursquare’s explore option. I noticed that it was
featured on the Food Network, so that intrigued me and we ended up going to
check it out.
With all due respect to Bret, I was a regular at Charlie’s for 7 years when the
diner was still located in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 2001, it lost its lease
and the owners had to remove the diner structure from its site on Plantation
Street. Eventually, they found a new location in Spencer, and reinstalled and
expanded there, and about the only thing that has changed (thankfully) was the
view out the window.
Yes the outer appearance is a gas station, and at first you think you’re headed
toward a regular ‘ol diner…but once you’re seated, it dawns on you that this
place is nothing of the sort. Of course approval from Guy Fieri & Diners,
Drive-ins, and Dives doesn’t hurt either.
It’s worth the price. Shiitake Mushroom Empanadas… Corn Masa Memelas…
Formed Chocolate Chile Mousse.
Quite some time ago I saw this place on Travel Channel’s top 50 unique places
to eat, or something like that. The idea of a fusion of Oriental and Mexican
food intrigued me. knowing that I would not be going to Phoenix any time soon,
I put it in the back of my mind.
Other than that, Chop House burgers now incorporates a bakery for your sweet
tooth fixin, and you still get the same brisket infused burger.
I’ve been going to Chuck’s for over 10 years. Recently, I’ve been hooked on the
cochinita pibil, which i believe is only served on Saturday/weekends. Tender
meat, tangy pickled onions (I’m not normally an onion fan), refried black
beans, tortillas. My only criticism is that the rice that comes with it is
decent, but not great.
The customer service was great also. Everyone greated me with a friendly smile
and was very attentive to me and everyone that was eating tat the bar. The
decor was also pleasant.
I used to like this more back in the day a lot more, back when not everyone and
there mother knew it existed…thanks to the wedding party held here by Kid
Rock and Pamela Anderson… They revamped an old white church, kept the pews
as seating and the bingo signage and turned it into a great restaurant.
Southern cooking at it’s finest. Oh, and I am a big fan of the bar here… I
ordered a whiskey ginger and got about a 3⁄4 glass full of whiskey… yummmm.
Very pleasant – our server was really friendly and laid back. And don’t
forget, it’s cash or local check only!
Super good. Vibe is perfect. Unfortunately only made it up there twice during
the few years I lived in DC. Was pretty long hike from SE, but worth it both
times.
An afternoon event in Manchester brought me to Corey’s today with some time and
an empty belly to fill. It met both needs quite admirably, and made me think
that if I lived in Manchester, this would be a likely place to turn up and meet
friends at the end of the day.
The first time I went here was right after Texas Monthly released its infamous
50 Best Burgers in Texas article. I happened to be living in Dallas in late
2009, so I went to The Grape, their #1, and while it was an unquestionably
great burger it left me wanting more. Surely Austin could do better, in burgers
as in all things.
Nothing tests my will more than trying a uniquely southern American delicacy in
the most northern of American places. I’ve had biscuits and gravy near Santa’s
house yo!
This bar is so unusual. First off, it’s in a completely residential area.
Second, it’s extremely unassuming from the outside. But oh man when you get
inside…
I love Crazy Burger. I love it mostly because it’s somewhere where everyone can
go, no matter what your dietary restrictions, and enjoy it. Casual, laid back,
hippy vibe with an eye for fresh food. Also, they pay special care to food
preparation for Vegan/Vegetarian diners.
I never thought an ice cream shop would make ice cream so good that I would pay
a weekly visit… with the excuse of rewarding myself after a hard day of
study.
Trying to be chronological here and starting with finding the location …
potentially very hard as it’s hidden behind a gas station and not really
visible from the street. I live about 2 miles away so am familiar but can see
how it would be a problem if one wasn’t.
