Food Paradise
I went to Hominy Grill with my wife and her cousin while visiting Charleston
recently. We had seen this restaurant featured on the food network and travel
channel so it was one place we had to check out while in town and we were not
disappointed.
I’ve yet to travel to England or Ireland but my friends who have tell me this
is pretty close to the real thing. So I was happy to help celebrate a friend’s
birthday over Fish n Chips and a pint.
We found out about this restaurant and amazing chef, watching “Top Chef Master”
TV series and he won the title competing against so many other amazing chefs.
It was okay. Richie D who said she’s kinda like Chicago’s version of Paula
Deen is right on. But with not as much…awesomeness.
I really enjoyed my 3-night stay here over labor day weekend. I love the
character of inns and this one was certainly cute.
Spent a week in Maine and went to plenty of seafood restaurants along the
coast. This little gem was still my favorite. Make reservations and still
plan on a short wait !!
Their German beer (Munich’s Hofbrauhaus) and pretzels are excellent; really the
best you can find outside of Munich, which makes sense because that’s where
they are both imported from. While not everything is local, the Usinger sausage
they serve is. Their knackwurst is very good; so is their spaetzle, which
might be a little too greasy for some.
So delicious. My favorite is the Balti, no…. the steak and ale……..no wait
the mushroom kale. I can’t decide. I love them all. Heaven is a meat pie. I
almost hesitate to review this place because it’s so quiet, out of the way,
lovely, and maybe a bit of a south side secret. But I do love giving shout outs
to my favorite businesses and I genuinely want them to be successful. So yes
Northsiders, the honest truth is Pleasant House is totally worth coming to the…
I’m a fan of their seafood salad (Monday & Tuesday special only). Everyone
speaks and they seem to remember their regulars! I have yet to try their pot
pies yet (I think I need to wait for fall to get one), but they are homemade
and HUGE!!!!
I tried Roundabouts this past Sunday. My boyfriend purchased a Groupon, and we
didn’t want to cook lunch on our lazy Sunday. Round-Abouts is a place that
specializes in pot pies of sorts. They are little crusts filled with savory
ingredients. They do also offer sweet dessert options, though I didn’t try
any.
I remember really kind of hating this place my first round here. Perhaps I’ve
cooled down with age and have let rampant restaurant animosity take a backseat
in my life. Who knows? This outing was a better experience.
Yes, there are hot women. All the waitresses are attractive and wear skimpy
clothes, which I enjoy as that is my preference. For anyone else, I don’t know
if there are very many reasons to eat or drink here.
This place has fantastic BBQ. Their brisket is moist, tasty and flavorful.
Their sausage is also outstanding (although I prefer Meyers sausage a bit
more). The ribs are also very good. I believe the brisket is better than
neighboring Meyers, but Meyers beef sausage is a bit better than here. So
depends on what you want. Also, really good cobbler with huge portion.
We just happened to check this place out during the last week for lunch. We’re
so disappointed that we wont be eating again. But it was definitely worth the
time searching this cool little place out.
Stewart P. and I came here for a mid afternoon lunch yesterday. I wanted
something good and cheap, and trust me, White Knight Diner fits the bill.
So I get a call from my OG buddy Robert, who tells me he wants to go to
Wurstkuche. I ask him what the deal is with the place. He says they sell
sausages and beer. If there is anyone who knows a thing or two about wieners,
it’s Robert, so I tell him to get his gelatinous ass over here and we roll on
over.
