Niki's West

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

The food is fresh and very good most days, and the other reviews cover it mostly, but i wanted to point out to those who are sensitive to it or have dietary restrictions - WAY TOO MUCH SALT. I've been coming here since I was a kid and still take my grandparents and kids here, so I obviously love it, but just thought folks needed to know that.

Wow! Can't say enough good things about this place. I have eaten here before and remember being really impressed but after being reminded by Andrew Zimmermn about this little gem, I had to go back.

Jim and Nicks BBQ

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

Just got out of lunch at the downtown Birmingham location of Jim n Nicks -- fantastic! We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted with a basket of warm cheddar biscuits...crack them open, watch the steam rise, and pop a few down the chute!

Miss Myra's Pit Bar-B-Q

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

Miss Myra's is completely laid back, no frills, smokin' yummy barbecue. You can probably buy your aquarium fish here, too, and make it a twofer. You order at the register, which is near a large aquarium, get assigned a number, and wait for your order at the refrigerated glass display counter, which holds delicious looking desserts. I ordered the pulled pork platter with deviled eggs and beans as my sides. While ordering, I marveled at the pretty guppies in the aquarium. The lady asked if I needed some... I think this started my affinity for the place.

Hot and Hot Fish Club

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

Do I need to tell you how the tomato salad, a simple menagerie of the freshest vegetables and a bit of bacon, serve as an excellent combination of textures and as a substantial but light start to any meal? Do I need to impart how the trio of pork - belly, chop, and leg - are an expansive and diverse combination of everything that constitutes Southern cooking, not to mention the first preparation of a chop to open my eyes to the possibility of the cut? Do I need to point out how Hot and Hot Fish Club and Chris Hastings are among the best the city has to offer?

Panini Pete's

On my way through Fairhope I discovered this little place in the French quarter and couldn't get enough of it, so when I had the chance to go back I jumped at it. Couldn't be happier.

Manci's Antique Club

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Saw this on Guy Fieri's Triple D so had to stop in--It would definitely qualify as a "dive" so if you don't mind a dark eatery with a bar atmosphere, this is your place! I ordered the Reuben Sandwich with a side of chili cheese fries.

The staff is very pleasant and helpful particularly Norma. She really knew the products. I ate the fried oyster with loaded baked potato every bite was delicious. I was only in town one night if I were there another night I would have gone there again. I love fresh tasting food and it was seasoned just right.

Southern Fish & Oyster Co.

tv show: Man v. Food Nation

This is as close as it gets to a real fish market here in Mobile. They sell their seafood wholesale and retail. You walk in, pick out your own fish; they will clean and fillet it for you at no charge (I normally tip a couple $$ though), if you wish to keep the bones and the head for fish stock - they'll pack them for you too.
