Man v. Food
You know how they say television makes things seem larger than life. Big Juds
is a classic illustration of that.
Wow what an experience!!! Not only was the experience off the charts but so was
the pizza!!! Came in here after seeing this place on Man Vs Food. That’s right
I got the famous 42 inch 1 topping pepperoni pizza!!!! Total: $56.09 However we
split the bill with some invites on this journey!
I always remembered seeing that Man vs. Food episode, and when the repeat came
on the other day, I took it as a sign to finally make the trip out there. When
I arrived, it was pretty dead in there, had about 8 customers. I knew the
slices were big, but I ordered 2 of them..filled with a bunch of meat
toppings..so I can start prepping for the challenge.
I have to start by saying the food is rated at 3 stars, in my point of view.
However, the atmosphere, and the employees brought up my rating an additional
star. This isn’t high end dining, however, if you want to be fed well, and get
a great TX experience, I would recommend stopping.
I have to say I do like these pies! Individual sized pies and cakes are all
they do. Somewhat limited variety but most of the favorites are there. No
coffee, so plan ahead or take them to go.
Just dropped $27 on a 3-topping “Chicago Style” pie. My wife and I are in
agreement that things have actually improved here from our previous visits.
The pie we got was probably the best we’ve received from here in the years
since we’ve start patronizing this north-side pizza place.
So far, my favorite restaurant in Durham when I’m looking for something a
little outside of the norm. My husband and I have been here so many times;
there is no way I can mention all the good eats I’ve had at Blu but I will
mention some of the most memorable.
Back to 4 stars. On my last trip we sat outside, up high, watching the sunset
on the creek, and a shrimp boat putting by. The fried fish was fair but the
local draft beers and the shrimp and grits made up for it.
Excellent - starting with the wonderful customer service to the food which was
a perfect blend of flavors. I had the slow roasted pork, it was shredded, very
flavorful, tender, and even though I ordered the small size, it was a good
portion.
A neighborhood institution since 1938.
Love it here! After hanging out at pacific beach, go up on the patio and tan as
you eat. Favorite is the strawberry waffles. It’s very dense and heavy. I’ve
never bad better waffles. Their breakfast burrito is also awesome.
I think the owner (Pierre) stopped in while we were there and joked with the
employees. He seemed to be very happy even though it was late in the evening
and undoubtedly a long work day.
Service was genuine and perfect! It was genuine, great beer recommendations as
well as menu recommendations and warm and friendly. What’s not to love? Don’t
ask me why we didn’t get a burger a burger place maybe it was because the mahi
mahi burger looked just edgy and tempting enough for us to take a risk?
Brilliant. You can totally paleo-ify this by ordering without a bun and order
veggies on the side. Great pico de gallo topping.
I’ve always heard people say, “you have to go there, it’s an institution” in
regards to various locations, and while I knew what they meant, I’m not sure I
really understood until going to Buckhorn Exchange. My parents were coming to
town to see us (but mostly Peyton Manning) before the holidays, and wanted to
have a buffalo steak for dinner.
I can’t believe this place closed! Seppuku wings were good - although I only
got through 10⁄12 before time ran out (doubtful I could even eat 12 mild wings
in 3 min….). Need to find a new spot for spicy wings in NYC!
As I was preparing to walk home from the general area, I thought that I needed
some sustenance to make the journey. The name beckoned me and I was in the mood
for a cold beer and tasty burger. Alas, ‘twas not to be as the small,
hand-written sign on the door said that B&BJ was closed. For some reason. I
made a mental note to return with matches and gasoline for them ruining my
desire to get fatter but I kept it moving.
I ate here with my children. They were craving some sushi. We had soup salad
and sushi. Soup was awesome!!! My 3 year old ate the whole bowl getting every
last drop in his mouth. We enjoyed the fresh salad with soy dressing. Perfect
ratio of salad to dressing. We ordered 2 spider rolls and a dragon roll. They
were so good my kids were licking the plate. Will return to try other things
on the menu.
Yes, it’s downright hearty, 5-star BBQ ribs which won against the Food
Network’s famous Chef Bobby Flay’s ribs. Say what?! Correcto mundo, it’s that
good.
Simply put, Cafe Du Monde represents the quintessential food experience in a
city that exhibits some of the best food in the United States.
Outstanding neighborhood bar - if I lived a few blocks from here I’d be here
every nioght - just like my buddies who live nearby do.
