Came here during happy hour on the weekday (4-7pm) and had a bowl of mussels.
It was only satisfactory considering it was $6 or something. Great drink deals
and the views and service. Can only imagine that a real dinner would be superb!
Definitely come by to take a look at the city if you have time.
It’s a good place to eat. I gave Cowgirl 3 stars for the food selection.
Being a vegetarian, I was surprised that they had a smorgasbord of items to
select from! I gave it an extra star for the margharitas. While they weren’t
any different from any other place with margharitas, what I haven’t seen before
is a Pear margharita which I thought was innovative.
Incredible gulf oysters - just 7.99/dozen is as reasonable as it gets. The
other items were okay (wings oversauced - stick with the seafood!) and the
outdoor dining area was great. Live music was at a nice volume, and the ring
toss kept the kids busy. Oysters. Now.
Finally got to eat here, despite my travel schedule…and it did not
disappoint. I HAD to try the hot sausage po-boy and the pan fried mac and
cheese.
Beautiful old bar with plenty of history. Drinks were good, service excellent
and ambience was superb. A definite must see for S.A. visitors.
We stumbled onto this place because it was right around the corner from the
hotel.
The duck phat fries are quite delicious. The only negative was that, about one
third of them were not crispy. Fries have to be crispy! However, they did have
layers of flavor with the duck fat, the dusting of sugar, the salt, and of
course the potatoes.
I tried out The Whistle Stop in Hot Springs today. I had seen in the newspaper
where they had been visited by Robert Irvin and his show RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE.
So my friend told me that Anthonino’s Taverna is probably the best Italian
restaurant in this area called the Hill (think of it as the Little Italy in
St.Louis). So I checked the restaurant’s website and found that Guy Fieri of
the Food Network actually came and visited this place. So I was quite excited
to come here for the dinner.
For as dead as downtown Baton Rouge can be at times, Boudreaux (Boo-Dros) &
Thibodeauxs (Ti-Bid-Doughs) can be one of the more lively nightlife venues
during the weekend. With it’s excellent outdoor space and multilevel seating,
it’s a more than ideal spot for folks who just want to chill out and drink, or
even for folks who feel like grabbing a bite in the heart of one of the more
fascinating cities in Louisiana.
Thank god appearances can be deceiving. Walking into Esquire Tavern I seriously
doubted that I was about to have a delicious meal. Esquire Tavern boasts itself
as the oldest bar on the San Antonio Riverwalk and it definitely shows. The
place is dimly lit; mostly constructed of dark, polished wood; and has an “old”
smell. There are also taxidermy animals pretty much everywhere. If this seems
at all off-putting to you, I encourage you to look past it.
We stopped up here to see a band while we were in town. It also happened to be
their 30th birthday weekend party/bash! Thee place was packed and they set up a
tent in order to accommodate the crowd. They did a good job controlling he
masses.
Gene’s has $4.99 rotisserie chicken….EVERYDAY!! No need to wait for
Dominick’s $5 chicken sales only to get disappointed when there aren’t any left
during the dinner rush or travel all the way to Costco. Gene’s has got a bunch
of chickens just waiting for you to take them home! I just made some tacos
with them tonight and they were delicious!
We met friends at Hi Tones to celebrate a birthday. I was a little apprehensive
that I might not be cool enough to be there, but my fears unfounded as the
crowd was both diverse and friendly. As others have mentioned, the drinks were
very affordable and there was no cover charge the night we went.. The live
music was great and the atmosphere was divey-eclectic in a good, interesting
kind of way. We had a great time and will definately return in the near future.
Italian Corner is the real deal: a small grocery store selling all manner of
Old Country staples, from olive oil, to pasta, to pesto, to coffee: really,
seriously good coffee. There’s also a grocery counter that serves up fresh,
delicious Italian dishes on a daily basis. If you are lucky enough to work in
the neighborhood, there’s no other consideration for lunch.
My husband and I stayed in San Antonio for a few days for our anniversary and
we ended up eating at Ocho twice. The gorgeous floor to ceiling glass windows
and French chic lounge was already more than enough to make us want to go
there, but I have to say I had the BEST burger of my LIFE here. No joke. And I
am always on the hunt for good burgers.
At the recommendation (insistence) of Amanda Z., I finally made it to Opal Thai
while a few friends were in town…and as soon as I took my first bite, I was
furious with myself for not making the trek out to the North Shore months
sooner!
I was happy to have finally sampled (and fall madly in love with) Ranger Creek
Brewing this past weekend at a Yelp Elite event in Austin, Texas at The County
Line by The Lake. BOY OH BOY was I a smitten kitten!!!!!
I had been hearing about Sammy’s for months before I finally had the
opportunity to be in Baton Rouge and give it a try. What a fun place! The food
is great, the portions large and the service is provided with a smile.
Definitely on my list of places to eat when I’m in town.
This is my favorite place in BR. Sunday brunch here would be my last meal-
Crabcake Poach is my favorite meal in the world. The stuffed french toast is
pretty good as well, along with the Eggs Pontchartrain and The Benediction.
Best breakfast I have ever had?? certainly the best in recent memory. For 10$
you get more food than 2 people can consume and everything is delicious.
