first found out about this place through a co-worker, and have been there a few
times with different people since then. This whole place was decorated with a
British theme, tiny wooden cabin with British stuff hanging all over the place.
My only complain about the décor is that they have an Ireland flag, a Scotland
flag, and a Wales flag, but no England flag, just a UK flag… It could just be
a British thing?
I’m told this is the classic Second City bar for performers, friends, etc.
It’ll definitely get the job done if you need a beer or three after seeing some
improv (especially if you’ve just gone to see your friend’s improv show and
have to convince him how good it was…awkward). Not a ton of seating, but if
you lurk long enough, you’ll be able to score a table or bench or three.
Pampas is a small, family-oriented business tucked into the bottom of a
shopping center. You have to keep a close eye to find it, but it’s worth the
hunt. The baked Argentine goods: alfjores (puff pastry with dulce de leche)
and empenadas are awesome (I prefer the beef to the chicken). You may have to
wait a minute or two, but probably more because this is a Mom & Pop operation,
so the owners do everything…just how I like and what I grew up in. Also
recommend the Beef Milanesa.
Wood-fired pizza by the slice from a food truck! Delish, cheesy, cheesy,
cheesy, and piping hot! Only $2 for a cheese slice, $3 for a pepperoni… I’d
gladly pay a dollar or two more for what I had!
Everything I’ve tried here has been very flavorful, perfectly cooked and well
seasoned. I recommend the Shahrazad Special plate to try the three most popular
kabobs they offer.
Everything is cooked to order, so waits should be expected. But service is
usually friendly.
I think Simon’s finally clinches it. I’m just not into dive bars. There is
nothing overly wrong with this place, aside from a slight odor that defines
dive bars.
Trendy, no frills place. We were out bar hopping and came across this cute
spot. It felt very cozy and inviting. Located on the south end of Halsted
avenue, near chinatown. They have a buttload of different types of beers to
try. They run daily specials too.
Welcome to Sweet Maple Cafe.Located in a modest storefront on Taylor St.,
Sweet Maple is one of Chicago’s favorite restaurants. Each day business owners,
police officers, professors, students, retirees, and tourists, gather to create
a community that is uniquely “Sweet Maple”. Some come for the ’40s era
background. Others come to chat with our friendly staff. But they all come for
the authentic “taste of home” found only at Sweet Maple Cafe.
Pho had very flavorful soup and the beef was very tender.
I dig it. They do a pretty great version of my #2 favorite food (tacos al
pastor), topped with cilantro and onions only, as should be. The jalapeno salsa
(which is usually green, but was red tonight because they got red jalapenos)
has a fiery kick that I welcomed with an open mouth.

It’s a dark night in Chicago, and you find yourself on a stretch of Western
Avenue without much going on, and out of the gloom you see a small group of
people smoking cigarettes on the sidewalk and hear blasting music roaring out
onto the street. You have made it to the Mutiny.
Since 1949 the Peanut Shoppe strives to ensure that all its nuts are prepared
fresh, everyday, throughout the day, guaranteeing you the freshest ingerdients
and tantalizing your taste buds with the aroma of freshly roasted nuts.
From the team that created Blackbird and avec restaurants, The Publican is a
new beer-focused restaurant located at 837 W. Fulton Market in Chicago.
Executive Chef Paul Kahan and Chef de Cuisine Brian Huston crafted an eclectic
menu inspired by simple farmhouse fare in a space evocative of a European beer
hall. Designed by James Beard Award-Winner Thomas Schlesser, The Publican
features the same simple lines and strong design elements that made the
architect’s long-time partnership with Design…
The dumplings are so good here. I want to go back and try them all.
My new venture offers fine dining in a fresh, lively and inviting atmosphere
coupled with the best view in the world.
After going to other Lao restaurants in San Diego, I decided to give Asia Cafe
a try. I’m really glad I did. Definitely a hole in the wall place but they have
really authentic Laotion food!
Just downright fully satisfying! I love that this restaurant is walking
distance from our place but wish prices weren’t so high so we could come ever
week!
This place gets an extra star for the music on its website; love the ambiance
of the restaurant also.
It’s hard for me to go 5 stars on much of anything so this is me saying that I
had a great experience at this place. It is a fairly bare bones type of drive
in so depending on what someone values when dining out I can see where certain
people may not find this place to be as great as others.
