Ted Drewes

tv show: America's Best

The only place I've ever had custard...hmmmm I will have to research this topic, came here on my last visit to S Louis about 10 years ago and I wanted my family to experience this great place and this thick creamy cold treat -anyways--we all loved it -- pecan praline, peach cobbler, lemon shake all good! We even saw a wedding party there to take pics and get their free custard, the photographer stated its sort of a tradition. There's a crowd but they move the lines pretty fast. Custard is soooo good on a cold brisk night in the Lou!

Farmhaus Restaurant

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

My favorite restaurant in STL (well, neck-and-neck with Niche and that family of restaurants). My wife and I usually get 4-6 plates to share, depending on portion sizes, and I'm always blown away by most of what we try and never disappointed by anything. The menu features a healthy mix of unusual items and less adventurous fare. Plenty of selection. There's also something pleasant about the no-frills decor, uncommon for a restaurant in this price range.

Smoki O's

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

As a vegetarian, I knew I would be limited to Smoki O's side dishes. But I was delighted to find out that the barbequed spaghetti is vegetarian. I paired it with some tasty green beans and cornbread. The woman who takes the orders is delightful, and the food comes out quickly. My meat-eating companions enjoyed their pulled chicken.

Schottzies Bar and Grill

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

Maybe it's just because I can't get the South County out of me, but I love this place. Granted it's a little smokey, the service can be slow, and the left turn from Lindbergh can be a pain, but it's still as good as a South County dive can get. The pub far is standard, but done well. The nachos are huge and of course covered in gooey wonderfulness. The pizza is honestly one of the best St. Louis Style pizzas around, and at least the last time I was there, they still had the Addams Family pinball machine.

Gioia's Deli

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

At the beginner of the year, I took a pledge to write 100 reviews by the end of 2013. I didn't want to wasted #100 on just any establishment, so I chose Gioia's to complete my task! And what a great choice, too. Gioia's has been on Da List for quite some time. I am a sucker for a good deli, but I don't get to branch out as often as I would like, especially living down the street from Blues City Deli.

Bogart's Smoke House

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

WOW" "Amazing" some of the words I used. I am out here from the Bay Area for the 9ers game and was told to come here. My god the food is crazy good. I would say this place is worth the flight out here. Who every the guy is at the front with the Bama hat has amazingly great customer service. Man us feel very welcomed.

Grbic Restaurant

Actually our second time visiting, this time with our son who can't stop raving about the goulash. Excellent food, great wait staff (thanks, Shaun!) and when they didn't have the beer he requested they brought him a premium brand on the house.

Cupini's

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Solid and quite authentic American-Italian. Ambience is ... about what you get @ most East Coast and Great Lakes American-Italian joints. This is the food of my youth, served up well. All the crappy reviews complaining about the chairs or the AC? Who are you people, go have a frozen meal out of a bag @ 0l1v3 [email protected] Seriously ... This food it pitch perfect. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

39th Street Mama's

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

I saw this on Diners Drive-thrus and Dives while I was in KC and I just had to check them out. This place is amazing and yes, the food is well decadent. Let's put it that way. I was not dissapointed at all with the service or the food. I would have given them 3.5 stars, but that's not an option. Only because the food is like carnival food, it's only for special occasions or you will find yourself gaining lots of weight.

Worth the hype as seen on TV. I was in St Louis for a business trip so I tried looking up if St Louis had any places featured on Food Network and found out about this.

YJ's Snack Bar

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

YJ's has been my default choice for eats in midtown for nearly 15 years. There is no big screen TV, no WiFi, and no customer relationship marketing at the order counter. No loyalty program, no discount card, nor any spam email originating from the place. YJ's is stuck solidly in the mid to late 20th century and is an oasis from the mind numbing technology that has taken over the rest of the world.

Happy Gillis Cafe and Hang Out

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

I stopped in while driving through town and I had such a wonderful lunch with a sandwich and soup. Ordering is done at the counter and the food is brought out when it is ready. The menu offers a lot of variety for lunch and breakfast, but is still relatively simple. Don't miss the soup selection listed on a little board on the counter; you must try one of the house-made specialties.
