Book Trader Cafe

tv show: Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America

I am very happy to have discovered this place. Before discovering Book Trader Cafe, I was quite frustrated by the available options near Yale. First of all, this cafe is a clean, well-lit place. It has a lovely atrium with light above you and on two sides, which makes it perfect for relaxing conversation. The service is friendly, the lay-out is logical, the servers are intelligent -- and so is the menu.

Louis' Lunch

tv show: Crave

No one will ever really know who invented the first hamburger. Louis' Lunch claims that it was invented within its walls, but who knows for sure? I enjoy believing that I ate a hamburger at the restaurant that supposedly invented this American food staple and that's all that matters.

Valencia Luncheria

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

The arepas here are incredible! I had asked one of my clients if he could point me out to a good place for lunch and he referred me here. The previous location of the same business, which happens to be only a block or two away, was on Food Network's TV show "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives," which is usually a pretty promising sign of a good restaurant.

O'Rourke's Diner

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

My favorite place now. I went there today and I had the Brian special (which is pretty a surprise - he will cook you whatever he feels like at the moment). I can easily say it was the best breakfast I ever had. I had to drive about 45 minutes to get there and I dont even care... I will be going back every chance I get. The staff was very friendly and Brian even came to say "hello" and cracked a couple of jokes.

Wilsons BBQ

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Please keep in mind that I don't eat real BBQ that often so I don't have much of a base to go off of; that having been said, I did enjoy Wilson's. We ordered the big platter with a variety of meat (St. Louis ribs, brisket, sausage), all of which were great. The sauces were a bit of a letdown (nothing special, just ok)...

Super Duper Weenie

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

I have been to all sorts of places that have claimed to serve "gourmet" hot dogs, with "gourmet" toppings. Most of these places forget about having a good piece of meat under all those toppings. Super Duper Weenie does not make this mistake, and in doing so, lives up to, and surpasses the claim that lies within it's name. In short, they truly make a Super Duper Weenie.

Corey's Catsup and Mustard

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

An afternoon event in Manchester brought me to Corey's today with some time and an empty belly to fill. It met both needs quite admirably, and made me think that if I lived in Manchester, this would be a likely place to turn up and meet friends at the end of the day.

Merritt Canteen

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Gata love the Merritt Canteen, this place has a lot of history, started and stayed in Bridgeport, CT there's a reason the lines are long...the food is good. They have all the good ol fashion stuff, hot dogs hamburgers/cheeseburgers great fries, oh yea PEPSI :D haha, and some other stuff like fish and chicken but I've only ever craved their cheesburgers and hot dogs and fries, this place is about speed also the way their cashiers take orders and the whole system to me is really neat. definatly look to stop by when you're runnin down the merritt parkway they arent' far off the highway and easy to get to

Sugar Bakery and Sweet Shop

tv show: Cupcake Wars

Cupcakes are $2.50 - $3.00 each, which is a little pricey, but for the occasional treat it's not too bad. My personal favorites are the Reese's Riot, Pistachio, and Red Velvet, but it's always difficult to choose when you are standing in front of that long glass case filled with the day's offerings.

Woody's

tv show: Man v. Food

I was able to find the place quickly. Across the street from The Society Room on Pratt Street, I was able to see the little sign then see the alley way into Woody's. Entering the 2nd set of doors I felt I was in a dimly lit mall. Sheesh, I said to myself "there are many door ways to get into this place."

Doogie's

tv show: Man v. Food

Right next to Ruth's Chris on the Berlin Tpke this is serious dog shack. They play old 45s and the place is very clean despite nearly constant turnover. The menu consists of fries, dogs (12", 18" and 24"!) burgers, cheese steaks, and fried seafood.

Ted's Restaurant

"I've had a few good experiences here, and am certainly happy to return. Tools does have happy hour, though you'll need to ask your bartender for details; it's never really been advertised or touted when i was there.

Randy's Wooster Street Pizza Shop

tv show: Man v. Food

I went back and forth on giving this 4 stars over 3 stars, but ended up with 4 stars. Overall, the place is pricey but the pizza is so freaking fantastic, that I keep going back. I used to frequent the Manchester shop but when we moved to the NE corner, I was totally excited to see that they opened a shop on the UCONN Campus. They had a groupon deal recently, so that was a bonus as well.

Modern Apizza

tv show: Man v. Food Nation

Modern may be one of New Haven's best kept secrets due to Wooster Street, but it seems like the cat has been let out of the bag! The wait to get in is starting to catch up (if not longer) than Pepe's... At least you don't have to wait outside here!
