Domilise's

tv show: Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America

It's been a couple of years, so I was worried that nostalgia and high expectations were going to lead to disappointment, but Domilise's still makes the best shrimp po' boy in New Orleans. This makes it the best worldwide. If you are keeping track, that puts it up with the best sandwiches in existence.

Dickie Brennan's is usually my favorite restaurant in New Orleans and we ike sitting at a table in the bar to enjoy the energy. We lucked out a very attentive host staff made it happen for us!

Commander's Palace

tv show: America's Best

This goes down as one of my most memorable meals. Not only because of the awesome food and service but just the whole experience of dining there. CP was on my must-do list for NOLA but I was torn on when to go. Having only four days to fit in at least 12 meals was quite challenging. And this wasn't going to be just any meal. There was quite a bit of logistics involved with this one.

Vaughan's Lounge

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

We arrived too late for the live music but the vibe was the best. Friendly local dive with nice bartenders. Next day, on a tour, our guide brought us here (coincidence) even though it was closed. He wanted us to see a local place 2 miles away from the French Quarter. When I go back to NOLA, will see Vaughan's when the band is on.

Dooky Chase

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

Dooky Chase was on the list for this year and did not disappoint. We went for the buffet and everything on it was delish. The fried chicken was golden crunchy, moist and not greasy. Those sausages were the highlight for me. The green beans, mac and cheese, red beans and rice were all stars. The peach "cobbler" wasn't what us northeners are used to. DC's cobbler was more like a peach bread pudding. We like our kind of cobbler with the strips of dough better.

Willie Mae's Scotch House

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

Went for lunch. There wasn't a wait for a table and the place never got completely full. Waited so long for the chicken we thought they went to a farm to kill it, pluck it and bring it back to fry. It was worth it though, and came out so hot I burned my tongue on the first bite. Stewed till falling apart green beans were good but butter beans were better and seemed to go better with the fried chicken.

La Provence Restaurant

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

This was one of the finest meals and restaurant experiences I have had in recent memory and I ate all over New Orleans this past couple weeks. This is a beautiful restaurant. The fireplace was lit and it was homey and comfortably elegant. The french farmhouse theme was wonderful. I thought the chairs were pretty uncomfortable but that was the only negative thing I can think of saying about this place.

On a recent trip to New Orleans, my wife and I went straight here based on the DDD episode that featured Surrey's. I must say we were not disappointed since we also came back the next day before we left town.

Rivershack Tavern

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

I grew up a few blocks from here, as did my mom before me, so the Rivershack has always been part of my life's streetscape, so to speak. My uncle says that when he was a kid in the 50s or 60s and they drove past it, my grandma made him look the other way, it was that scandalous!
