Gooey Looie's

tv show: $24 in 24

The cheesesteak was even bigger than I remembered it, and was filled with flavor; if it were halved in size, it would still stand beat the pants off of many other cheesesteaks around here. The turkey hoagie was no smaller and also a scrumptious feast, and my lady's tasty corned beef was about the size of a small accordion. We got all this on Monday, and I'm eating the last of it for dinner tonight, on Thursday. There's just so much of it. A parting note - they don't have bacon. They ALMOST lost a star for not offering bacon. I'm utterly baffled by their lack of bacon. The fact that I'm letting it slide should speak volumes for their food, because let me tell you - I really love bacon.

First stop in Philly was to fill our hungry bellies. After watching the Travel Channel, I have noted this place is a must try. Got here around lunch time and there was a huge line that wrapped around Dinic's, but my friends and I decided we will wait. The wait was about 40 minutes, which isn't too unusual for us New Yorkers.

Primanti Brothers

Primanti Bros is a place that almost any foodie has heard of. Though I know many who say there are better places elsewhere, you can't go to Pittsburgh and not have a sandwich from Primantis. This location is the original location in the Strip District and is open 24 hours of the day! Service is good but a bit slow for us. The menu is pasted on the wall and includes all your deli favorites....topped with coleslaw, fries, and tomatoes!

The Galliker Dairy Company

tv show: Crave

The Galliker Dairy Company was founded on March 25, 1914, when Louis Galliker purchased the Shreve Ice Cream Company located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The new company was first known as the Galliker Ice Cream Company. Ice cream was the firm's only product until competition forced the company into the milk business in 1925. In the early days, the firm made ice cream at 451-453 Franklin Street and processed milk and had its garage at the corner of Haynes and Sherman Streets, Johnstown. Louis Galliker died in January 1937, and was succeeded by his widow, Pauline H. Galliker, who had been active in the business from its founding.

I've been going to Silk City since like 2003 and for some reason I have never written a review. Back in college, we went here all the time to go dancing. Before they re-did the diner part, the food was really simple diner food. Nowadays the food is a little fancier, but you still get to sit in the old school metal diner car. I only wish there was more seating.

Percy Street Barbecue

What I like the most about Percy St is the ambiance and the side dishes/appetizers. I love the space- you feel like you walked off South Street and into a roadside BBQ joint that is run by someone's Mamaw and Papaw in North Carolina. I like the mason jar glasses and the tin plates and the bench seating. A place like this could be called kitschy but Percy St does a good job of not making it so.

"We have an Italian, Asian and African-American neighborhood demographic," Longacre says, "and many of them are happily getting into good beers... They used to come in and ask for Miller Light. Must compliment the one waitress on her excellent penmanship when writing up the menu board with chalk. I really like this place. What a gem in the Doylestown Area. The owner/chef is so friendly and her staff is very nice. But the best part of the visit of course is the amazing cupcakes. Creative flavors and excellent quality. Just make sure the cupcake sits out for an hour. Don't eat them cold, no matter how tempted you are to chow them down. I have been here a dozen times. Ordered a birthday cake and have never been disappointed. Worth the a short trip from downtown D-town, Newtown or even Philly. Pats King Of Steaks

Pat's King of Steaks (also known as Pat's Steaks) is a Philadelphia restaurant specializing in cheesesteaks, and located at the intersection of South 9th Street, Wharton Street and East Passyunk Avenue in South Philadelphia, directly across the street from rival Geno's Steaks. It was founded in 1930 by the Olivieri brothers, who are credited with the creation of the Philly Cheesesteak.

Geno's Steaks was started by Joe Vento back in 1966. He figured that if he was going to sell a steak, he had to be where they were already eating them....at the "X" shaped intersection of 9th & Passyunk in South Philadelphia. Joe learned the cheese steak business from his father who in the early 1940's opened "Jim's Steaks". In 1966, Joe started "Geno's" with $6.00 in his pocket, 2 boxes of steaks and some hot dogs.
