tv show: Bizarre Foods America

I had one of my very favorite meals here on my first visit, back when the menu was in "pricing tiers" of sorts. It was like a long, skinless, miso poached eggplant and it was my favorite eggplant I've ever had (and I've had a lot of eggplant). While it's long gone from the menu, there are a number of other tasty standbys that have withstood the test of time.

Hops and Pie

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

After a combined 23 years in the fine dining scene all across the country we decided it was time to slow life down a little bit and do our own thing, and what better thing than Pizza & Beer. While living in San Diego the idea of Hops & Pie was born. Partially inspired by living in close proximity to Stone, Lost Abbey, Port, Green Flash and Ballast Point Breweries, we began to develop a love for hand crafted beer. We soon learned that good IPA and pepperoni pizza were made for each other. That inspired us to start creating different pies to see how they paired with different beers and we soon learned that the sky was the limit.

Foolish Craig's Cafe

In an attempt to knock another DD&D location off the list, we stopped here for dessert while on a day trip to Boulder during a long weekend in Denver.

Lauer Krauts

I grew up eating bierocks, and these are close. They are quite peppery, and I love pepper. They are not as good as what I grew up with, but they do the trick considering how much work it is to make them from scratch.

Sam's No 3

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

My boyfriend and I found ourselves here after the Ravens/Broncos playoff game on Saturday. After freezing and being too stressed out to eat for nearly 7 hours (game + tailgate time), Sam's offered everything we needed: a warm, comfortable restaurant with tasty food and solid portions. (And a place to safely celebrate the Ravens' victory among disappointed Broncos' fans).

Steubens is one of my favorite places to eat in Downtown Denver. Not only does it have a cool ambiance and atmosphere but the food is excellent. Like any good place downtown, be prepared to wait for a table, especially on the weekends (though the last time I went on a Friday we were seated right away).

The Bagel Deli

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

LOVED this place. I was on a cross county road trip and this place was a great stop. We had bagel breakfast sandwich to go, and the came back to get house made bagel chips and smear for the road. The staff was great, and everyone in the place (you can also dine in) looked like a local or someone who knows where to find the good food.

The Sink

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

I just really dig the vibe of this place! Really low ceiling that you can tag with your name and funky 'famous' art work on the walls. Its a dive that's a wacky spot with good food, beer, and people. I live in Denver so I'm not a regular by any means but I will try and get over here whenever I hike or run in the area. Super friendly staff, good chicken wings, and sandwiches.

If the Indian Taco isn't your scene, the Medicine Wheel Nachos won't disappoint. The melted cheese they smother the chips in was recently altered by adding more green chiles and deliciousness. All I could say when I tried it was "mmmmm cheese".

Gray's Coors Tavern

tv show: Food Wars

Wow I saw one of my childhood memories on TV. Grey's Coors Tavern was having come kind of cook off with a restaurant in Pueblo West. This must have been what inspired my Pueblo food dreams of the last couple of days. Can't wait to go back this summer..... Grey's, Mill Stop, Passkeys, Do-Drop...........All of my old childhood eating favorites.

Sunset Inn

tv show: Food Wars

Im a huge green chili fan so after moving to Pueblo a couple of month's ago I've made it my mission to try every slopper in town. From an outsiders point of view, without being emotionally attached to a restaurant like many Puebloans seem to be, so far the sunset has the biggest and the best. In my opinion the Coors Tavern slopper didn't even come close.

Mountain pies already sound epic. And then they give you a pork green chili sauce option. That's all she wrote, fellas.
