Maria's Cafe

tv show: $24 in 24

I went here with a larger group on a recent Sunday morning. I felt like an idiot trying to get into the place, there are several doors that look like the entrance and the real one was the last I tried. It wasn't packed, which is rare for a decent breakfast place on a Sunday morning. The food was really flavorful, but sadly a little cold.... Everything tasted so good that I'm still giving it four stars, normally cold food would be a deal breaker, but we were still happy. Our group ordered the corn pancakes to "share". I liked them so much that I ate all of my food (a spicy scramble) and most of the pancakes. Needless to say, I didn't need to eat lunch that day.

Sonora Grill

tv show: $24 in 24

All of Sonora Grill's ingredients are prepared in a 100% scratch kitchen with an infusion of Spanish & South American flavors. had a wonderful pork sandwich with the now famous eggplant fries. I could tell immediately that the food was fresh and prepared in the kitchen as it was very, very good. The eggplant fries were something that I wanted to try since seeing them on The Food Network. They are good but certainly not something I'd be ready to eat daily. They can get surprisingly heavy as they seem to absorb a lot of oil but served fresh and hot they are very tasty.

tv show: Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America

We went here for my father's birthday after I have heard about it from a friend. I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. We started out with the grilled bread with prosciutto and mozzarella (WOW), we shared a spinach salad (WOW), and we each got an entree to share. I had the butternut squash pasta (amazing), my mom got the trout special (sauces were out of this world) and my father got the roasted chicken with malt-o-meal (to die for). These dishes were seriously something special and VERY reasonably priced.

Haute Dish

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

This was the best restaurant I've ate at in the twin cities. WOW! We had the steak tartar with the Oyster Shooter - It was heaven in my mouth! The tartar was unbelievable, and i never want to eat an Oyster a different way. We then had a pesto pasta type thing...there was a foam on top that was to die for. We also split a steak with tater tots, which I was apprehensive about, but believe me, these are not the same tots that Napoleon Dynamite eats from his pocket, so give them a chance!

Al's Breakfast

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Al's Breakfast has been a Dinkytown staple since the 1950s. It's changed hands a few times since, but has kept the same down-home vibe and many of the original recipes. It's been featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and has even won a James Beard award in 2004 in the "America's Classics Restaurants" category. Cool, huh? I started going to Al's when I was a freshman in college and have enjoyed the classic breakfast joint ever since.

Psycho Suzi's

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

We went on a Friday night and were seated immediately at a table overlooking the house band. AWESOME and fun tiki decor. We ordered our first round of drinks (mine served in a coconut and hers served in a ceramic shrunken head) and an order of pickle roll-ups from our friendly attentive server.

Dari-Ette Drive-In

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Great local mom and pop drive-in that offers more than you would expect including great fired chicken and some unbelievably good Italian dishes. You have to taste it to believe it but I would put their red sauce (gravy) right up there with the best.

The Nook

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

The Nook was featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. If Minnesota has a state burger, it's the Juicy Lucy, a molten cheese-stuffed burger. Serious burger lovers flock to Casper & Runyon's Nook in St. Paul for a modern, gourmet Juicy update. A fresh bakery bun, real cheese and quality beef make this explosive entree the local taste champion.
