Hominy Grill

tv show: America's Best

I went to Hominy Grill with my wife and her cousin while visiting Charleston recently. We had seen this restaurant featured on the food network and travel channel so it was one place we had to check out while in town and we were not disappointed.

We have great memories from our previous trip to Charleston, so we chose to reminisce at this delicious restaurant that we loved before. We stopped in for dessert and were seated shortly after our arrival.

Buckshot's Carry Out

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

I would like to say this is one of the BEST places I have ever eaten, and since I travel a good bit, that is saying a lot! The smothered pork chops melt in your mouth, the fried fish was absolutely awesome and the fried chicken reminded me of my Daddy's and that is a huge compliment! I would recommend this place to everyone who likes GOOD HOME COOKING! Awesome lunch for my husband's birthday, we will go again!

Martha Lou's Kitchen

Allow me to backtrack....thank goodness my boo was driving because I would have easily driven past this place...well not really...it is painted hot pink..so I take that back. Ha. Walking in...we were greeted and told to seat ourselves. We decided to order the Fried Chicken dinner with 2 sides (lima beans, Okra soup) and the Fried Fish dinner with another 2 sides (white rice, okra soup) + cornbread. Note to my fellow yelpers: Come with an appetite!!!

Excellent! We went for dinner and it was delicious. I had the ham, macaroni and cheese and green beans. With a piece of cornbread. The ham was thick cut and real ham! Generous portions, good prices and great Southern service.

Pawley's Front Porch

Heat attack on a plate? Yes please.... All I have to say that the burgers are pretty outstanding. I came here with a group of co-workers for dinner and was not disappointed. Between us we had the Caw Caw, Wadmalaw and Beaufort burgers. We all got them with the pretzel buns.

The Glass Onion

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

My wife and I met chef Sarah O'Kelley in Atlanta at a soul food cooking class. She is hilarious, fun to talk to, and an amazing chef, having trained/worked at Emeril's restaurants in N'Awlins and elsewhere. She is easily identifiable by her headband, which seems to be a permanent fixture.

The Early Bird Diner

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

My husband and I really loved the Early Bird Diner! It's a little diner off Savannah Hwy with a lot of character- lots of fun art on the walls, random books and games that you can read or play with while you wait on your food... pretty neat little place. We arrived early and were seated immediately, it was pretty empty when we got there because it was about 5 in the afternoon, but it was packed when we left (I think they close for a bit between lunch and dinner).

This place really rings my bells! Good drinks, great food, and a killer dog-friendly patio. It was also featured on Triple D. On a nice day it doesn't get much better than this.

Tattooed Moose

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Holy cheeseballs, did we love the TM. Just a little neighborhood kinda place, but those are usually the best in our experience. Completely casual, good music overhead, cool bartenders. We had the duck confit club, duck fat fries and a couple of long islands.

Perfectly Frank's

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Everything here is good and there is so much of it so I'm not going to go in depth talking about all the different stuff. Just find something that sounds good or interesting, and it won't disappoint. Except the sweet tea, it always tastes funny. Get a coke in a glass bottle, way more fun.
