Mitchell Delicatessen

tv show: Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America

I stumbled upon this deli while in East Nashville on business and now I make special trips to the area just to have breakfast and lunch. This is the kind of business that deserves our patronage. Quality ingredients from local suppliers that satisfy the palette with hearty portions. If you're looking for a unique local deli with delicious concoctions that puts national food chains to shame, this is your place.

Loveless Cafe

The Loveless Cafe is what roadside dining is all about. Formerly a cafe & hotel for travelers on the Nashville/Natchez Trace, the hotel went by the wayside - but the cafe continues to serve top notch classic southern comfort food.

tv show: Crave

Dyer's Burgers is Memphis institution that is famous for (of course) burgers. Legend has it the burgers served here are cooked in 100 year old grease. People tend to have strong opinions as to weather or not the burgers are actually good, probably because the patties are very thin and the standard commercially produced bun used becomes a greasy mess. Personally, I love the Dyer's burger! I don't eat bread so I always get mine without the bun. I like the triple triple; three patties, and three slices of cheese. I eat with a fork. Yes, it's greasy, but that's what makes it so good!

Central BBQ

tv show: Crave

This place is badass. I love Central BBQ. Way better than TOPS and the atmosphere is also top notch. The sauces are always warm and perfectly spiced. I love all the food here but usually go for the BBQ Turkey plate. I jokingly call Central BBQ the "Hippie BBQ Joint" but I mean that well... young folks that love their job making great food and providing excellent service. Anytime Im in the area (and there not a line out the door.. LOL) I try and stop and get my BBQ Fix.

We were advised to go during "off hours" to avoid the wait. That didn't really work. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon (a rainy one at that), and the place was packed with a long wait (for us, about 45 minutes?).

Cozy Corner

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

This bar is so unusual. First off, it's in a completely residential area. Second, it's extremely unassuming from the outside. But oh man when you get inside...

Little Tea Shop

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

A few weeks ago, my friend Craig of the blog Memphis Que wrote that he was having trouble finding places to blog about. Given that his blog's focus is on barbecue and Soul Food restaurants, this surprised me. I responded by listing places that I either experienced or heard great things about. Among the restaurants mentioned, one of them is head and shoulders above the rest.

Marlowe's Ribs

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

We stopped in last Christmas Eve for a drink and Fred was our waiter. We loved that guy so much we talked about him to all of our friends and family. We were taking a friend from out of town by to see Graceland the other night, and decided to stop in again - only this time we planned to eat. We were amazed at how good the food was!

Pizza Palace

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

Stopped in primarily due to seeing the place on DDD years ago. I wasn't disappointed. We ordered a pizza with onions and green peppers, and an order of the spaghetti and meat sauce.

Tom's Bar-B-Q

tv show: Diners Drive-Ins and Dives

The rub on the ribs was excellent, the best I've ever had. The pork and brisket was tasty, but a bit average. However, the sides made up for it -- the potato salad and beans, especially.

I don't even know how to talk about Uncle Lou's. If you're expecting a delicious blend of fried foods and a wonderfully local atmosphere, look no further than Uncle Lou's. There's really nothing fancy about this place. You walk in, see some tables, lots of people and a giant menu with quick snapshots of each item for easy pickin'.
