Scatchell's Beef and Pizza

tv show: $24 in 24

I wouldn't come here for a good slice of pizza. The Italian beefs are ok; lacks flavor for my taste. Italian ice is good, they have a variety of flavors. OK cheese fries. I have to say, there's a black guy usually at the register and a Hispanic guy that takes orders. Both need to work on their attitudes. One is rude, the other a perv. Overall, it's an ok place to pick up a quick bite. If you don't have a closer place to pick from.

Mario's Italian Lemonade

tv show: $24 in 24

The lemonade stand was started over 50 years ago when Mario's dad gave him a hammer and told him to knock a hole in the wall of their general store (the place that is now Demitasse Restaurant next door). Mario has kept the tradition that was begun by his grandfather alive by maintaining a steadfast and stubborn insistence on using only the best ingredients and the correct preparation methods. The lemons are all squeezed by hand and he only uses real cane sugar. The inside of the store is like a German operating room...impeccable and spotless. He is the real deal and we need more like him!!!

Ann Sather Restaurant

tv show: $24 in 24

We all started off with some coffee which we desperately needed after a late night of craziness. My friends ordered the waffle with strawberries which looked great although I didn't taste it. Another friend ordered the Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam, which was amazing! The lingonberries are similar to cranberries and were sweet and delicious! I went for the crab cake benedict, which comes with two sides!

Honey One BBQ

tv show: $24 in 24

This may be the best place to go for rib tips in Chicago (and elsewhere). It is a fairly small joint, very casual, everything served on disposable containers.....but their tips are great and the chicken was equally good. Unless you are extremely hungry, you might consider ordering the medium size order, it was plenty. The sauce complements the meat as well. They also offer hot links, pulled pork chicken wings, fish and even some sandwiches (which may not be smoked) When you enter, the first thing you see is the smoke oven...........unfortunately we did not see it in operation. Well worth the trip!

Al's Italian Beef

tv show: Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America

Very few restaurants have foods with flavors so distinctive and unique that they are featured as one of Esquire magazine’s current picks for best sandwiches in America. Only one, Al’s Beef, offers its customers Chicago’s and America’s #1 Italian beef sandwich, the one and only, the authentic sandwich invented 70 years ago at the now legendary Taylor Street beef stand in Chicago!

The Fifty/50

tv show: Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America

It's sometimes hard for me to truly rate sports bars/restaurants, especially with the Fifty/50. As others mentioned, it's three floors, but I only saw the main/first floor. However, while there are three floors/levels, it's a rather narrow space. It definitely felt more bar-like than sports bar/restaurant-like to me, even though there is a full menu. There were multiple tvs with different football games on, with the audio for one of the games playing. The tvs are not excessively large, and they don't really need to be since it's a narrower space.

Hot Doug's

tv show: America's Best

I didn't know that hot dogs could be so special until I came to Hot Dougs. We rented a car in Chicago to drive out to the suburbs of Illinois just to try some Foie Gras Hot Dogs. The wait was about an hour out the door of the restaurant. We ordered 4 different hot dogs to try.

Fast Eddie's Bon Air

tv show: Bizarre Foods America

This establishment will leave you full, satisfied, a feeling of time well spent, and certainly leave you wanting more! Cheap food. Wait that's not accurate... Inexpensive, insanely low priced food. Food that is so seasoned and cooked to delicious perfection you will most certainly crave things from this restaurant. Born and raised near St Louis, I visit every chance I get (even though now I live a thousand miles away). I visit family often, and no trip home is complete without Fast Eddie's. So enough about the food already, right!? My visit tonight, having been three months since last in town, meant I wanted everything. I wanted a sampler platter of almost one of everything (just a few bites of each I tell my self). I ordered, to share with a friend, a feast for two: Two pork kabobs, a steak on a stick, twenty peel and eat shrimp, one hot chicken stick, a cheeseburger, and a basket of fries.... for get this... under twenty bucks. We left two, maybe three crumbs. So enough with all the food reviews! Right! Live music, inside, outside, good music. Tap your toes, catch yourself singing along music! Whether you are people watching alone, our in a group of twenty, this is the place to eat, drink, and have stories to tell the next day!

Jake Melnick's Corner Tap

tv show: Crave

I really like Jake's wings and fried goodies. There is one set of wings that I don't like was ponchos. The regular wings are probably my favorite in Chicago. Good beers and good atmosphere. This is more of a sport bar theme which is probably why they have good appetizers and such. My wife had the nachos which she loved. The spinach dip is pretty good too.

Los Moles

tv show: Crave

Just had dinner there in a Sunday night. Quiet but good. Try the ceviche. It's excellent! They put olives in it which I'm not a fan of but works wonderfully with their recipe. I could have ordered a second round it was so fresh. For dinner I had the carne asada and they cooked it beautifully. Normally I would have ordered tacos but I tend to be predictable. I would check this place out again. I give it two thumbs up.

Baconfest

tv show: Crave

Don't even know where to start with this review... Wish I could give a detailed review of everything I ate but I kind of blacked out (or minor cardiac arrest?) halfway through due too bacon overload. JK no such thing as too much bacon. Sarah does a great job reviewing some of the standouts at the fest. Some of my favorites to add on (although not limited to) are:

iCream

tv show: Crave

I was excited to try this place, but I don't think the novelty of liquid nitrogen infused ice cream grabbed me or maybe it did but it wasn't spectacular enough for me to care/notice.

Harold's Chicken Shack

tv show: Crave

This is the hidden gem of Chicago. I flew in from San Francisco last week and could navigate my way from the airport just from the memory of eating Harold's 5 years ago. The memory of the spices wafting in my face as I took bite after juicy bite haunted me for years. No one on the west coast understands Harold's Chicken and if one more person tries to empathize with Popeye's or KFC, I'm gonna kick them in the knees 'cause they just don't get it.

Gino's East

tv show: Crave

I came to Chicago for some training and wanted to be sure to eat some authentic deep dish. We decided on Gino's and after not eating for about 8 hrs prior, I felt it would be amazing. However, when it came time to dive in, I was a bit underwhelmed. Actually, I was disappointed. I've had deep dish before and enjoyed it at a local chain in AZ that has about 10 locations. I know some people might not agree with me, but I felt the sauce at Gino's was a little generic and the crust tasted like a bad corn muffin (not to mention very dry).
